Working principle

How grooved conveyor systems work

The grooves on these rollers guide round drive belts, providing consistent traction and preventing slippage. In a lineshaft system, a rotating shaft drives the rollers via polyurethane or elastic drive bands seated in the roller grooves — powering multiple rollers at once for continuous, even movement of goods.

STEP 01
Drive band seats in the groove
A round polyurethane or elastic belt fits into the machined groove, giving positive, low-slip contact.
STEP 02
Rotation passes roller to roller
A lineshaft or 24V DC motor drives one roller; the belt transfers rotation down the line.
STEP 03
Speed & direction stay controlled
24V DC motorized rollers add precise control over conveying speed and direction.
STEP 04
Consistent performance under load
Reduced friction and optimal belt alignment keep output steady even with heavier loads.

Application

Usage of grooved rollers

Grooved rollers feature a series of channels cut into the roller surface. These grooves improve traction, guide the direction of the conveyed material, reduce noise, and add flexibility to conveyor design — including curved and spiral configurations.

Talk to Our Team
Improved traction
Prevents slippage between belt and roller for heavy or bulky items.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Grooved rollers can be made from various materials, including stainless steel, zinc-plated steel and plastic, depending on the application and environment.

Grooved rollers provide improved traction and grip for transported materials, reducing slippage and increasing efficiency, while helping maintain proper alignment of the conveyed material.

They're commonly used where materials travel on an incline or decline, or where extra traction and grip is needed — such as food processing or packaging lines.

Yes — groove size and pattern, material, and roller size can all be customized for optimal performance in your application.
